Unique Blessing Fasting

O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint.

(Al-Baqara 183. Verse)

We will discuss the "Fast and be Healthy" writing we saw in the mosques during holy Ramadan under scientific data.

Benefits of Fasting

Benefits of FastingThe first of the positive effects of fasting on the body is the detox effect, which means getting rid of poisons. Our body stores the harmful chemicals that enter its body in the fat mass. For example, DDT, which is an agricultural poison, is found in the oils in our body. During the fasting process, the body first spends its glucose stores to provide the necessary energy, and then burns the fats to provide the necessary energy. Thus, harmful chemicals that have been in the body for a long time can be removed from the body by fasting. In an experiment, DDT was detected in sweat and urine samples taken from fasting people.

The second important effect is that it speeds up the healing process. Digestion is actually a process that requires a lot of energy. During fasting, our body does not need digestion and concentrates all its energy on metabolism and immune system. Animals, for example, stop eating when they're injured. Watch out, we lose our appetite when we have the flu. It's a natural response our body reacts to speeding up healing.

Scientific studies have proven that fasting for 3 days completely regenerates the body's immune system. Experiments in cancer patients have proven that fasting slows tumor growth, kills cancerous cells and increases the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. In addition, fasting has positive effects on heart health. Heart Rate Variability (KHD) is one of the indicators of heart health. Studies have shown that KHD increases during Ramadan. Prolonged starvation reduces high blood pressure, increases hdl, which is good cholesterol, and reduces impaired insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is perhaps one of the main causes of many diseases today. These include heart disease, cancer, diabetes, polycystic ovary disease and Alzheimer's (dementia) disease.

Growth Hormone increase with fasting

Growth Hormone increase with fasting

You are what you eat. It's as simple as that, the malnourished gets bad. Fasting is to put the body into service and care, so to speak. It repairs and regulates the deteriorating system and parts. Another important benefit is to increase the level of Growth Hormone in the body. Growth Hormone is a hormone that has been popular in recent years called youth potion. This hormone, which is mostly secreted in infancy, decreases as you age and is produced very little after the 30s. A rejuvenation effect of 10-20 years has been observed in those who use this hormone in their 50s. These effects include feeling good, higher energy level, more flexible and radiant skin, stronger muscles, more fat burning, darkening of white hair, etc.

Fasting is the most effective method for burning fat. Studies have shown that the body burns a high percentage of fat but does not have a catabolic (protein-muscle destruction) effect, which is harmful to the body. 1https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11147801/ Athletes do not need to worry about muscle loss. Scientific research has shown that growth hormone levels triple during fasting, close to the increase during sports, are sparse but much longer and stable. 2https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20534752/

Finally, and perhaps the most important effect is that it prolongs life span. This is achieved by a combination of all the benefits listed above. These include: slower metabolism, more efficient protein use, a stronger immune system, and more is the secretion of Growth Hormone which is a kind of anti-aging hormone.

A scientific study conducted in the 1930s revealed that the only way to extend lifespan in mammals was undernutrition. In the experiment carried out on worms, the worm, which was exposed to a kind of fasting, lived 19 generations longer than its other relatives. If we compare this with a human, it corresponds to 600-700 years.

Japanese cell biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2016 for how cells recycle and regenerate their contents, a process called autophagy (the starving cell's self-digestion of aged and damaged structures).

In the light of all these scientific data, we see that fasting is a unique blessing for the human body. In our age, people spend a lot of money on their health and personal care. Fasting, which has numerous benefits from all of these practices effectively, free and spiritually, is a worship that must be fulfilled. Allahû Tealâ does not need the fast of us servants, but we have too much.

Note 1:
In order to benefit from fasting, which has such important benefits, not only in Ramadan, but also all year, one can fast on Mondays and Thursdays.

Today, scientists state that eating twice a day and leaving the table without being completely satiated is the healthiest way of eating. In fact, Muslims have known for a very long time that this is the correct method. Because this is the sunnah of the prophet.

Note 2:
Some people claim that Islamic fasting without drinking water is harmful, whereas hunger in which fluid intake is free is actually beneficial. Our advice to them is to investigate fasting without fluids, such as fasting, which we hold, called dry fasting. 3https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/jhn.12042

Because limited fluid intake forces our body to burn more fat, fat can be used to produce metabolic water (the water our body makes internally). Every 100 grams of fat, our body can make 107 grams of water, which is 55g of carbohydrates and only 42g of protein. In other words, fat is the most efficient source of metabolic water.

Since we can't moisturize our bodies with external fluids, metabolic water is very important, and our body will strive at a higher rate to obtain metabolic water from fats than water free fasting. This fat burning effect can speed up and support your ketosis condition.

Fast, find health.
